Abstract

CDC light traps have been used to monitor mosquito populations in the Reedy Creek Improvement District for several years. Aedes albopictus was detected for the first time in these traps in August 1991 and has been increasing in numbers ever since. Aedes aegypti has been found infrequently in these traps and has not been trapped at all since September 1993. Over the past four years (1991-1994), Ae. albopictus has been collected at 15 of 16 trap locations, whereas only four of these trap sites have been positive for Ae. aegypti.
