Abstract

It is with sadness that we report the sudden death of Andrew George Warne in San Juan, Puerto Rico in late March, 2002. The coastal geological community has lost a dynamic and creative scientist whose interest had focused on modern marine deltas and related coastal problems. Drew was born in Marion, Indiana, on November 18, 1954, the son of Thomas P. Warne Jr. and Ruth Lang Warne. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983 and his master's degree from Rutgers in 1986, and then returned to UNC, Chapel Hill to complete his doctorate in 1990. His post-academic experiences included geological research positions at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C., the Waterways Experiment Station of the Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Mississippi, the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas in Austin, and the U.S. Geological Survey in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
