Balanced Coastal Protection on a Danish North Sea Coast
Keywords:
Beach erosion, barriers, groynesAbstract
Protecting a sandy shoreline is more complicated than just constructing protection works. Sandy barriers and their neighbouring shorelines cannot be protected by groynes alone but the entire shoreline has to be regarded as a whole. A critical section on the west coast of Jylland has been investigated. Only constant monitoring and rapidly applied counter-measures can ensure a relatively safe shoreline.
