Abstract

For the coastal manager to estimate future events traditional coastal engineering methods are often inadequate. On the Gold Coast, supplementary local evidence of past events has been used to more accurately predict future events and trends. Methods used include analysis of recent cyclone storm events as related to erosion and storm bar generation, measurement of mineral sand tracer deposits showing historical erosion scarps, determination of podsalisation of existing dunes and evaluation of contour evidence of past dune breaches.
