Monitoring Reaction and Growth Due to Tipping and Selective Pruning Applied to Five Distinct Mango Cultivars

Published 2017-06-15

Abstract

Some mango (Mangifera indica L.) cultivars have distinct growth habits with some tending to grow vigorously and vertically, like ‘Keitt’ or ‘Kent’, and others more laterally and moderately like ‘Julie’ and ‘Graham’. Pruning can also have an effect on the growth habits of the shape and vigor of mango trees. The purpose of this study was to follow five distinct mango cultivars over a period of one year to record the reaction of the cultivars to pruning techniques designed to control the height and shape of the mango trees.
