Abstract
Surveys of Florida's greenhouse vegetable industry were conducted in 1991, 1996, and 2001. Acreage changed during the decade with 66 acres, 58 acres, and 95 acres being reported in 1991, 1996, and 2001, respectively. Significant changes in production media occurred over the decade with declines in the use of rockwool and increases in perlite usage. European cucumbers were the predominant crop in 1991 and 1996 but fell to fourth in 2001 behind colored pepper, tomatoes, and herbs. The 2001 survey showed 63% of greenhouses in Florida were pad and fan style houses with the remainder constructed with natural ventilation. Trends and changes that may affect the industry are discussed.
