Abstract

Pond apple (Annona glabra L.) is classified as an obligate wetland species. This tree, which used to be prevalent in some wetland areas, has great potential for increased use in Florida wetland areas, mitigation sites, and home aquascapes. The goal of this experiment was to increase the body of information available regarding the effect of flooding and fertilizer types on growth of seedlings of pond apple. Two independent experiments, each 16 weeks in duration, were conducted with seedlings of pond apple cultured under flooded or non-flooded conditions. Fertilizer was supplied in one of three forms - prills (Sierra® 17N-2.57P-8.26K Plus), tablets (Woodace® 14N- 1.29P-2.48K), or briquettes (Agriform™ 20N-4.29P-4.13K). Plant height, dry mass, and stem diameter were greatest for seedlings of pond apple cultured under non-flooded conditions with fertilizer supplied in prill form.
