Abstract

The new models across the nation for the education of beginning small farmers include multidisciplinary approaches that provide holistic training of different production and direct marketing systems for increased sustainability and success of their enterprises. The Market Gardening Project is a successful agriculture extension program that provides a curriculum based on these approaches and designed to address the needs of highly diversified, small-scale, horticultural producers of the local foodshed for Sarasota County, FL.
