Abstract
Data from two contrasting citrus sites in Florida were analyzed to determine the most cost effective weed control treatments on the basis of annual cost per percent weed control. The seven preemergence: bromacil, diuron, norflurazon, simazine, oxyfluorfen, oryzalin and thiazopyr were applied individually and in combination with each other. A postemergence only herbicide treatment of glyphosate was included in the study. For the preemergence herbicides which had greater than 80% weed control on an annualized basis, the cost per percent weed control per treated acre ranged from $2.09 to $3.68 at Lake Garfield and, $2.95 to $4.55 at Indiantown. Higher herbicide rates were applied at Indiantown due to greater weed pressure. This economic approach to weed control provides a useful tool to develop herbicide weed control programs.
