Abstract

There is a growing need for bio-rational pest and disease control techniques in estate mango production in Florida. Direct sales, mail-order and farmers’ markets are increasingly demanding in terms of techniques that do not involve conventional chemical controls. While this is not meant to diminish the use of pesticides, it evaluates a more sustainable and cost-effective approach to pest control. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the use of Tanglefoot (a com-mercial product meant to control ants and other insect pests traveling up the trunks of trees) insect barriers in estate mango production in South Florida. The experimental 0.5-acre orchard was established in 2015 and is located in Homestead, FL.
