Abstract
The Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) Program is designed to educate Florida residents and visitors about techniques that reduce personal impact on Florida’s environment and, in exchange, help sustain the natural ecosystems, the flora, and the fauna. The FFL™ Program teaches nine principles to encourage water conservation and the improvement of water quality in Florida’s waterbodies. Using creative ideas to teach the Florida-friendly principles can remove staleness from your workshops. To promote the “Reduce, Reuse, or Recycle” principles, a “Trash to Garden Treasures” workshop has been offered The ultimate goal was to determine if the audience was receptive to creativity in reusing or recycling household items in the landscape or garden. The workshop was not the typical slideshow presentation; items were gathered and ideas were shared with the workshop attendees. Products made from recycled material were used as prizes for class participation and awards for the correct answers to questions on the other eight FFL™ principles.
