Abstract

Myrmecosaurus ferrugineus Bruch (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Paederinae) has been found in nests of Solenopsis invicta Buren (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana. A description of the adult of M. ferrugineus and a key to separate it from adults of other Myrmecosaurus species are given. All 7 described species of Myrmecosaurus are associated with Solenopsis and are South American. M. ferrugineus has presumably been introduced accidentally into the United States.
