Aggregation behavior and Response to Sodium Chloride in Females of a Solitary Bee, Augochlora Pura (Hymenoptera: Halictidae)

Abstract

Females of the solitary sweat bee, Augochlora pura (Say), sometimes form aggregations of up to several hundred individuals. These aggregating bees are attracted to filter paper conditioned with odor of conspecific females and they assemble at and lick NaCl solutions to them on paper in the field.
