Evidence for a Thermally Transduced, Scanning IR Detection System in the Mite Laelaps Echidnina
Abstract
The attraction of the spiny rat mite, Laelaps echidnina Berlese, to host-emitted infrared radiation (IR) is closely correlated with the vertical scanning motion of legs I. Based on theory and experimental data, it is concluded that the transduction mechanism for IR reception is probably thermal in mode of operation.Downloads
