Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most controversial technological advancements of our time and each day becomes more ubiquitous in all sectors of our lives. The assessment of student learning and evaluation of student progress is a hallmark of our work in higher education; the results of these assessments guide our instructional practices and our continuous improvement processes. In this paper I examine the intersection of this emerging technology and assessment within a framework of principles for assessment and ethical considerations. The presentation concludes with a model that presents the facets that we should address when we use AI tools in our work.
