Abstract

The anthology of interviews and short works by Michel Foucault, Power, edited by James D. Faubion with an introduction by Colin Gordon, presents a well-rounded overview of Foucault's analysis of power dynamics, knowledge production, and the construction of "truth." This literature review examines six key interviews conducted between 1977 and 1984, covering such themes as Foucault's methodological approach, his conception of the role of intellectuals in society, and the nuances of power/knowledge and the relations it creates. Through a focus on Foucault's prioritizing of micro-level practices and discourses over traditional universalist approaches to critiques of power, this review provides insight into the subtle mechanisms that govern social practices, institutions, and truths. Foucault's ideas continue to provide important lenses to understand the dynamic and reciprocal nature of power that affects, and is affected by, nearly every aspect of modern society.
