Abstract

This article presents a brief history of arts and arts programs in criminal justice settings followed by an account of research into the field. It ends with a discussion of two bibliographies which make research easily accessible to a wide audience can be used by a diverse audience of stakeholders to promote the case for arts-in-corrections research.

Amanda J. Gardner, PhD, is co-author of Arts in Criminal Justice and Corrections: International Perspectives on Methods, Journeys and Challenges and of the Prison Arts Resource Project, an annotated bibliography of research on U.S. arts-in-corrections.
