Abstract

Across the United States, different states have different regulations and methods within their juvenile justice systems. This article will examine the historical development of the juvenile justice system, which will be contrasted with today’s conditions. The problems faced today, including the violation of children’s rights and the lack of focus on treatment of root causes of delinquency, will be analyzed. Finally, the work being done to solve these issues and different guidelines that could be used to further do so will be discussed.
